Scholarships 2010

Empowering yourself to design and elevate your life requires education. The hemophilia community is fortunate to have abundant scholarships available to current and future college students with bleeding disorders to help them get the education they need to live the lives they dream.

Alex Lieber Memorial Scholarship

Amount:

Two $1,000 scholarships

Alex Lieber

Candidate:

Person with hemophilia or von Willebrand disease accepted to an accredited college, university, or vocational/technical school.Candidates must be able to demonstrate a strong record of volunteer service.

HFA Artistic Endeavors Scholarship

Amount:

$1,500

Candidate:

Person with blood-clotting disorder not necessarily attending college. Scholarship can be used for producing a play, writing a book, painting, publishing or another artistic endeavor. Imagination and portfolio required.

Beth Carew Memorial Scholarship

Amount:

Ten $4,000.00 scholarships awarded

Candidate:

Available to undergraduate students in the US with inherited bleeding disorders, for academic year 2010-2011

Bill McAdam Scholarship Fund

Amount:

$2,000

Candidate:

Person with hemophilia, VWD or spouse, partner, child or sibling, planning to attend an accredited college, university, trade or technical school, or certified training program.

Applications must be submitted electronically using MS Word or rich text format. Mail a hard copy of your transcripts directly from the school(s) you’ve attended.  Reference forms must be emailed directly from the reference’s email.  Use in the  subject line: “[your last name]/McAdam Scholarship Application.” One professional and one personal reference should be submitted. Do not send handwritten material; previous winners not eligible. The application is updated yearly.

The BioRX/Hemophilia North Carolina Educational Scholarships

Amount:

Four $2,000 scholarships

Candidate:

Caregivers of children affected with bleeding disorders; a person diagnosed with a bleeding disorder; or a sibling of a person diagnosed; must be in an accredited college or university and interested in obtaining a degree in the medical field. Calvin Dawson Memorial Scholarship

Education Advantage Scholarship Program, Supported by Baxter

Amount:

Up to $15,000/year to attend 4-year colleges and universities (multiple scholarships available)

Up to $2,500/year to attend community college or vocational/technical programs (multiple scholarships available)

Up to $150 reimbursement for passing the GED Test (multiple scholarships available)

Candidate:

Teenagers and adults with hemophilia A or inhibitors.  For scholarships, applicants must be enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, an accredited college, university, community college, or technical/vocational school.  For GED Assistance, applicants must have recently passed the GED Test.

Academic Scholarship

The Accredo's Hemophilia Health Services Memorial Scholarship Fund

Amount:

$1,500 and up (multiple scholarships available)

Candidate:

Full-time undergraduate and graduate students with hemophilia, von Willebrand disease and other factor deficiencies. Applicants must be US citizens and demonstrate financial need, academic achievement in relation to tested ability, and involvement in extracurricular and community.

Scott Tarbell Scholarship

Amount:

$1,500 and up (multiple scholarships available)

Candidate:

Students with severe hemophilia A or B only.
Applicants must be US citizens majoring in computer science or math at a technical/vocational school, college or graduate school in US. This scholarship can also be used to pursue computer certifications such as MCSE, CNE or CNA.

Amount:

Grants of up to $500 per person per year

Candidate:

K-12th grade tutoring for any consumer with hemophilia
and inhibitors are awarded up to $500 a year to help families who require additional tutoring or other forms of learning help.

HFA Sibling Continuing Education Scholarship

Amount:

$1,500

Candidate:

Soozie Courter “Sharing a Brighter Tomorrow” Hemophilia Scholarship Program

Amount:

Twelve $2,500 college undergraduate scholarships and five $4,000 graduate scholarships.

Candidate:

Students with hemophilia A or B. The program is open to high school seniors, students who have completed high school or an equivalent program (eg, graduate equivalency diploma [GED]), and students enrolled in junior college, college (undergraduate or graduate), or vocational school.
